Senior Network Engineer/Architect



Roles Purpose

To provide third level technical network support to both internal and external customers within the company. Responsible for the design, ownership, investigation, analysis and resolution of network service issues. Work with technical management to architect networks that effectively reflect business needs, service-level and availability requirements.



  • Develop and implement industry standard best practice network designs to ensure scalability and resilience of network services to the business
  • Employ a consultative approach with strategic thinking, innovative problem solving to serve as the technical lead for all network related solutions.
  • Build strong relationships with our suppliers and partners to maintain optimum support e.g. CISCO, Eircom.
  • Resolve technical issues upon escalation from second level network support.
  • Mentor second line staff to assist their development and help them contribute to team deliverables
  • Become technical lead in large projects
  • Provide Network performance monitoring – to ensure critical components are monitored to meet our SLA’s
  • Operate, maintain and enhance network services supporting the operation of internal and external customers and business units.
  • Continuous development of plans for failover and testing of critical network components and services to ensure resilience is in place.
  • Escalation liaison with other technical team’s for problem / analysis / resolution.
  • Clearly escalate incidents and problems internally and with external parties where required.
  • Assist with the continuous improvement of IT processes and procedures in order to improve customer service.
  • Participate in outside of normal business hours assignments for the deployment of changes to production.
  • Excellent working knowledge of wireless networks
  • Good working knowledge of ITIL practices in relation to change and continual improvement
  • Participate in on-call rotation to provide afterhours support




  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) qualified.
  • Minimum of seven years’ experience supporting Cisco based enterprise network environments at an operational and design/architecture level.
  • Excellent working knowledge of networking protocols and topologies is essential.
  • Excellent working knowledge of network management and administration tools.
  • Excellent working knowledge of TCP/IP, Cisco firewalls, LAN. WAN, VPN systems.
  • Excellent working knowledge of wireless networks.
  • Good working knowledge of ITIL practices in relation to Change and continual
